Kennedy’s Supreme Court legacy is being erased, in part by past clerks
Kennedy’s Supreme Court legacy is being erased, in part, due to the Trump Administration’s appointments to the Supreme Court. Trump’s appointees have shown a willingness to uphold more conservative interpretations of the law, and to overturn many of Kennedy’s key rulings from the court. This includes a recent decision that terminates the 2020 Census count early and a ruling to limit the scope of the Voting Rights Act. In addition, Kennedy’s influence on the Court, particularly on LGBT rights, has been greatly diminished. This erasure of Justice Kennedy’s legacy is a reminder to all those who cherish civil rights, that the Supreme Court is a political body that can be influenced by the makeup of its membership.
