NRA gets unanimous GOP backing in suit to dismantle governor’s ‘unlawful’ gun order

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has received unanimous backing from the Republicans in its lawsuit against Governor Gavin Newsom’s executive order to ban certain firearms and high-capacity ammunition magazines in California. The NRA filed suit in federal court in June, claiming the order violated the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Republicans in the state legislature have also supported the NRA, with Senate Republican leader Shannon Grove saying the ban is “unlawful” and “an infringement upon California gun owners’ Second Amendment rights.” Meanwhile, California Democrats have spoken out against the lawsuit, with Governor Newsom labeling it as “an insult” to Californians and other elected officials arguing that it undermines the state’s “sovereign ability to protect our residents.”
