McConnell urges tighter border security in Biden’s budget request along with support for Israel, Ukraine

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is urging tighter border security measures in President Joe Biden’s budget request, along with increased support for Israel and Ukraine.

In a statement released Tuesday, McConnell called for the Biden administration to provide “robust” funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with particular emphasis on efforts to secure America’s borders.

“The security of our nation’s borders must remain the top priority,” McConnell said. “The Administration must provide robust funding for the Department of Homeland Security and must fully fund necessary efforts to secure the public safety of the American people, with particular emphasis on efforts to monitor and secure the Nation’s borders and related immigration enforcement.”

McConnell also requested that the budget include increased foreign aid for Israel, Ukraine, and other vulnerable nations, as well as investments in US diplomacy and defense.

“The United States must continue to back our strong historical allies, including Israel,” he said. “We must also continue to provide security assistance to other Middle East countries, including Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as to Ukraine, to combat Russian aggression and annexations.”
