Government shutdown November deadline: What happens to Social Security payments and more

Social Security payments, veterans’ benefits, and other government services that are deemed essential will not be affected if there is another government shutdown. Most Department of Treasury offices and other federal offices that distribute essential services will remain open. Non-essential government activities, including certain types of scientific research and services related to national parks, would most likely be suspended or cut back.
