Supreme Court declines to issue expedited ruling on Trump immunity case

The Supreme Court has declined to issue an expedited ruling in a dispute over whether President Donald Trump can be sued while he remains in office.

The court issued an order on Monday saying it would not issue a ruling on the issue until the case had progressed through the federal appeals court system. The case had been brought by two protesters who claim Trump violated their rights when he ordered security officers to clear a group of demonstrators near the White House during a 2017 protest.

The request for an expedited ruling had been made by the Trump administration, which argued that the case should not proceed while Trump was in office. The court, however, has declined to issue a ruling on the issue, leaving it for the appeals court to decide.
