Univision anchor Jorge Ramos rebukes network for not challenging Trump
Univision anchor Jorge Ramos recently criticized his network Univision for what he perceives as its refusal to take an aggressive approach when it comes to covering Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
In an interview with The New York Times, Ramos claimed that Univision had “fallen into self-censorship” and was not putting enough pressure on the Republican candidate to explain how his proposals would specifically affect the Latino community.
In response, Univision executives said they have covered Trump “unflinchingly and objectively” and that doing so has “conferred a responsibility on all hosts, reporters and anchors” to not take sides when it comes to political reporting.
At the same time, Univision News has taken steps to focus more on Trump’s policies and rhetoric that disproportionately affect Latinos. These efforts include appointing a special team of reporters to investigate Trump’s past statements and ties to the Latino community, as well as creating an ongoing series of reports highlighting how his policies would affect Latinos.
It remains to be seen whether or not Univision’s efforts will satisfy Ramos, but it is clear that they are committed to continuing their investigative coverage of Trump and his campaign.
