Key House Freedom Caucus member predicts McCarthy to break promise on omnibus bill
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, predicted on Tuesday that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy will break his promise of bringing an omnibus spending bill to the floor of the House this month. “We’ll see if the word holds up,” Jordan said in an interview with the Washington Post. “I’m skeptical.” Jordan also said he is worried that McCarthy, who promised members of the Freedom Caucus last week that the omnibus spending package, which would fund the government through September, would be brought forth soon, will abandon this commitment. McCarthy has yet to officially introduce the bill, though he is working to do so. Jordan said he is concerned that when McCarthy “put[s] out the text that some additional, non-negotiated items will be attached to the bill,” which could lead to a breakdown in bipartisanship.
