CNN names former New York Times CEO Mark Thompson as its chief
news officer
CNN has announced that it has hired former New York Times CEO Mark Thompson to serve as its Chief News Officer. Thompson will join CNN on April 1, 2021 and will lead news editorial and content operations overseeing all CNN news gathering and programming. Thompson spent the past eight years at The New York Times, overseeing its digital transformation and expanding its portfolio of award-winning journalism and product offerings. Prior to joining The New York Times in 2012, Thompson was the Director-General of the BBC.
