McDonald’s plans to eliminate self-service soda stations at all its restaurants
in the United States by the end of 2020, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. The elimination of self-service soda machines is part of the company’s effort to reduce physical contact between customers and workers in the pandemic, McDonald’s said. Customers will still be able to get fountain drinks — just now they will be served by a McDonald’s employee. The change applies to all U.S. locations but does not affect McDonald’s McCafe coffee machines.
