Israeli official predicts US ‘involvement’ if Iran, Hezbollah join fighting with Hamas
It is difficult to predict with absolute certainty how the US or other countries might respond to any potential involvement of Iran or Hezbollah in a conflict between Israel and Hamas. However, it is expected that the US would be strongly opposed to any effort by Iran or Hezbollah to support and influence the conflict. The US has long sought to act as an intermediary in any peace talks between Israel and Hamas, and the US would be expected to coordinate diplomatic and military efforts to address the conflict and potentially also to coordinate with other countries in order to limit any involvement of Iran or Hezbollah. In the past, the US has been willing to take a hard line on Iranian forces within the Middle East, so it would be expected that US involvement would be similarly strong if Iran or Hezbollah were to become directly involved in the conflict.
