Speaker Johnson: Biden engaging in ‘cover-up’ of role in Hunter business dealings, impeachment probe continues
House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) accused former Vice President Joe Biden of “attempting to cover up his role” in business dealings involving his son Hunter.
McCarthy’s comments followed after House Democrats ended their document requests in the investigation into President Donald Trump’s handling of Ukraine, which included a subpoena for documents related to Biden and his son Hunter.
McCarthy said the documents requested by House Democrats “are intended to investigate Joe Biden, and show he is attempting to cover up his role in his son Hunter’s business dealings.” He accused the Biden campaign and the former vice president’s lawyers at Burchfield & Associates of obstructing the investigation by refusing to turn over documents and blocking interviews.
McCarthy also accused the Biden campaign of withholding information that could have added to the debate around impeachment, and argued that the House Democrats’ investigation was “not a search for truth, but a continuation of their partisan pursuits to discredit President Trump.”
Trump has denied any wrongdoing in Ukraine and has sought to push allegations against Biden to counter claims that he abused his power by withholding nearly $400 million in military aid to the country to pressure its leaders to investigate Democrats.
