Schumer blasts Supreme Court’s new ethics code for one ‘glaring omission’

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sharply criticized the U.S. Supreme Court’s newly-adopted ethics code, which failed to explicitly address recusal in cases involving President Trump. In a statement following the court’s announcement, Schumer blasted the new code, saying there’s a “glaring omission” in not specifying when justices should sit out of legal proceedings involving Trump or someone connected to him. Schumer called for the court to amend its ethics code to include language that would “guarantee that justices can’t hear cases involving the litigants or lawyers who have been donors and political allies of the justices.” Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s recent nominee to the court, has already come under scrutiny for failing to recuse herself from Trump-related cases.
