Biden campaign amps up focus on Trump, starting with Jan. 6 speech
The Biden campaign is intensifying its focus on President Donald Trump, beginning with his Jan. 6 speech ahead of the deadly siege of the U.S. Capitol.
The Democratic campaign has announced several efforts in recent days targeting Trump for his words and actions, including a new web video looking back at his speech and a press call with campaign staff on Thursday to discuss his “incitement of violence and sedition.”
The campaign has likewise sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI urging an investigation into Trump’s conduct surrounding the speech and the subsequent attack, and pressed members of Congress to impeach him a second time before Jan. 20.
It all leads up to the Biden team’s upcoming formal launch of its “Holding Trump Accountable” task force.
The task force will coordinate the campaign’s ongoing efforts to hold Trump and his allies accountable for crimes they may have committed while in office. It will also focus on educating the public about what Trump has done and why it matters that they are held to account. It will include a legal team to pressure Congress and investigate potential criminal wrongdoing, as well as a communications team to ensure the story continues to be told and public pressure remains high.
The ultimate goal of the task force is to ensure that Donald Trump and those who aided and abetted him cannot go unpunished. If nothing else, the Biden campaign and its “Holding Trump Accountable” task force will serve as a powerful message to those in power that the American people will not tolerate presidential-level misconduct.
