Honda recalls almost 304,000 Accords and HR-Vs over seat belt defect

Honda Motor Co. has issued a recall of nearly 304,000 of its Accord and HR-V vehicles over concerns that the Seat Belt Pretensioner may detatch in a crash, according to a statement from the automaker Tuesday. The recall covers Accord vehicles from the 2013-2016 model years, as well as the 2016 HR-V. The defect, which centers around the car’s seat belt pretensioner, can detach in the event of an accident, leaving the occupants without the necessary safety restraints. Honda has asked customers to bring their vehicles to the dealership for a free inspection in order to ensure their seat belt pretensioner is functioning properly. Those affected should receive a free repair if necessary. Honda has advised owners of affected vehicles to contact their local Honda dealer for more information.
