U.S. economy added 187,000 jobs in August, more than was expected

The U.S. economy added 187,000 jobs in August, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, exceeding expectations of 163,000 jobs. Professional and business services drove the job gains, adding 51,000, followed by healthcare (37,000), transportation, warehousing, and utilities (21,000), and construction (20,000). The unemployment rate was unchanged from July at 3.7%. Wages were also up 3.2% from a year ago.
