between Republicans and Democrats in Congress on a budget.
At this point, it is not clear if Republicans and Democrats in Congress will be able to avert a government shutdown. House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have both pushed for some sort of compromise in order to prevent a government shutdown. However, both Democrats and Republicans remain far apart in negotiations. With just days left before the budget deadline of December 8th, time is running out for Congress to reach an agreement and prevent a government shutdown.
